ReRooted documents an experiential prototype that speculates a possible future where technology is used as an interactive tool to create an experience that aims to bridge our relationship with nature by connecting people with nature once again.
This project and visuals are informed by the idea of harmony among energies between different entities, be it technology, human or nature. To learn more about the visual exploration, please look at the physical publication "visual exploration" or head to the cataloge of making website :)
Different Components with Press Input
Addressing the environmental issue requires exploring ways to bridge the separation between humans and nature, and Tangible User Interface (TUI) design offers a method for connecting the physical and digital realms, as well as fostering human-nature interactions.
In this experiental prototype, the setup components that contribute to Tangible User Interface (TUI) design are the interactive live visuals (left), currently on a computer just for testing and the live input (right), key-press that is designed to make the button more prominent).
First Setup
The third component of the experience is an outdoor exhibition that pulls all interactive experiments, setups and outcomes into an interactive experience at Coney Island.
Coney Island, is known for its rich biodiversity and untouched, uninhabited landscape. Its natural environment makes it an ideal site for an interactive experience connecting people with nature. However, due to the uncooperative weather, the first testing and setup was done in a shelter at Coney Island.
Interactivity
Filter is not affected when not pressed, the noise still generates randomly to distort the environment around to depict disharmony and create interesting visuals to attract people
When key is pressed, visual changes, to encourage interactivity. The idea of harmony is evident when pressed, the visual resets and comes together to create a harmonious effect, before it gets distorted again.
Unpaved Setup
As the weather cleared up, the original plan is as follows, to bring the setup into an unpaved area, to invite people to interact with nature
Users felt more connected to nature, as compared to the first location under the shelter. The setup being in an unpaved area of the island urged users to go into nature. To ensure an optimal interactive experience that connects people with nature, the experience should be held unpaved areas
Sensing Input
To aid in future developments, This time, I decided to try out different visuals with movement sensing to test out how users interact with it.
